Actor Steve Carell came to the rescue of his Get Smart co-star Anne Hathaway on the red carpet on Monday, by helping her dodge a reporter's question about her break-up with Raffaello Follieri.
The pair was at the Los Angeles premiere of their spy-themed film when one journalist took the opportunity to question the actress on her highly-publicised split from the Italian businessman, who is currently in jail following his arrest on suspicion of fraud.
But, before Hathaway could answer, Carell lunged in and answered: "In my role of agent (for) Miss Hathaway, I would like to say that she does not answer questions relating to this subject."
Hathaway ended her longterm relationship with Follieri last month, just days before he was taken into police custody.
The 29-year-old is currently behind bars until he can post $21 million (GBP10.5 million) bail. A status hearing has been set for 9 July.
